Group Leader

Group Leaders are employed at outdoor centres to lead visiting groups and instruct or assist them in activity sessions.

The exact role varies from centre to centre but responsibilities usually include meeting a group of guests when they arrive, helping them settle in, looking after them outside of activity sessions, escorting them to and from activity bases, joining in with activities as an instructor or an assistant instructor, organising evening entertainments and generally dealing the welfare needs of the group in liaison with their party leader.

Group Leader roles are the most common entry level position within the outdoor industry. Some centres will provide Group Leaders with the opportunity to take NGB (national governing body) teaching awards in specific activities during their employment.
