If you love the outdoors it's hard to beat a winter season in the Alps as a working environment. Winter season work in Europe usually starts in late November / December and runs through until April of the following year. Most staff are contracted for the full season but there are sometimes vacancies in peak weeks such as during February half term and the Easter holidays.
If you want to become a qualified ski or snowboard instructor there are a number of companies who offer instructor training programmes that help you gain qualifications and get some paid work experience.
Outside of instructing there are all kinds of seasonal roles available in winter resorts including bar staff, chalet hosts, chefs, childcare staff, drivers, housekeeping staff, kitchen assistants, maintenance staff, reception staff, retail staff, ski technicians and waiting staff.
Wintersports locations in Europe include Andorra, Austria, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. Work permit regulations vary from country to country but the job details usually specify which type of passport and/or work permits are eligible. In recent years an increasing number of employers based in the French alps have been able to obtain work permits for UK passport holders but this is usually dependent on the role and the time at which you apply for a job.
